The 76ers are trading Johni Broome and a second-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers for cash considerations, according to ESPN.
The move allows the Sixers to officially sign veteran wing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who over the weekend agreed to a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, while staying under the first apron hard salary cap. Caldwell-Pope will reunite with recently signed megastar LeBron James, his former teammate with the Los Angeles Lakers including during the 2019-2020 championship season.

The Sixers also had the option of waiving Broome and stretching his $2.1 million cap hit over seven seasons — reducing it to $300,000 per year — because his 2027-28 and 2028-29 salaries were nonguaranteed, according to the Athletic. But this trade solves that issue in one fell swoop.
Broome played in only 11 games for the Sixers during a rookie season that was interrupted by late-February meniscus surgery. He did perform well in stints with the G League’s Delaware Blue Coats, including a 50-point, 17-rebound outburst shortly before his injury.
Broome, who turned 24 this month, was the Sixers’ second-round draft pick in 2025 after a standout college career at Auburn.
The Sixers on Sunday waived guard Dalen Terry — whose $2.6 million salary for 2026-27 was nonguaranteed until Jan. 10 — in order to sign James and stay under the first apron hard cap.
