A Perkiomen Valley High linebacker went viral this weekend at Cam Newton’s seven-on-seven camp after trading verbal jabs with the former MVP quarterback.

“You’re a free a free agent,” Jseth Owens said to Newton during the conversation.

“I’m rich,” Newton responded.

The encounter made waves across the internet with some people calling Owens ungrateful and disrespectful. Of course, he hasn’t earned the right to call out an NFL MVP and Heisman Trophy winner, but he is a kid and some of the messages he has received push the limit for a junior in high school. Newton countered the backlash by posting another video of him interacting with Owens at camp. During that conversation, Owens said, “we rep that 215.”

Owens posted an apology on Monday morning, stating, “as a football player I let my competitive side get the best of me & it was a huge miscommunication.”

Owens, who attends Perkiomen Valley high school, ranks as one of the top linebackers in the state in the 2022 class, according to Rivals. Max Preps lists Owens at 6-foot, 196 pounds.

Perkiomen Valley is just over 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia in Montgomery County, so locals won’t have to travel far to see how he develops as a senior.
