Long forgotten by the art world, Mavis Pusey rises again at Philadelphia’s ICA

Abstract artist Mavis Pusey had teaching positions at Rutgers University and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, appeared in the Whitney’s 1971 exhibition “Contemporary Black Artists in America,” and sold art to the Museum of Modern Art. Then, she seemed to fall off the map entirely until Hallie Ringle, chief curator at the Institute for Contemporary Art, and Kiki Teshome, curatorial assistant at the Studio Museum in Harlem, salvaged her legacy.
