Cardinal O’Hara grad Maggie Doogan gets waived by the Phoenix Mercury
The former Richmond star signed a training camp contract after going undrafted and appeared in Phoenix’s first two preseason games.

Former Cardinal O’Hara standout Maggie Doogan was waived by the Phoenix Mercury, the team announced Thursday. Doogan signed a training camp contract with the Mercury on April 15 after going undrafted in the WNBA draft.
Doogan appeared in Phoenix’s first two preseason games, playing limited minutes off the bench. She scored two points in eight minutes of action in the Mercury’s 108-104 win against the Chicago Sky on April 25. She played four minutes and grabbed three rebounds, but missed all four of her shots from the field, in their 86-60 win over Japan on April 29.
Doogan spent four seasons at Richmond where she became one of the top players in the Atlantic 10. She won two straight A-10 Player of the Year awards in 2024-25 and 2025-26.
She averaged 21.1 points and guided the Spiders to their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance this past season. Richmond was a No. 11 seed and lost to Nebraska, 75-56, in the First Four.
Preseason games run until Saturday. The WNBA regular season tips off on May 8.
