Chester County authorities believe that the shooting death of a woman in East Goshen Township on Friday was a suicide and that a 9-year-old girl also was wounded by gunfire.

“The child who was shot continues to recover from her injuries. As we announced on Friday, this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the general public,” the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement Monday.

Police were dispatched just before 11 a.m. to the Summit House condominium complex on West Chester Pike for a reported shooting. Inside the unit, the officers found the woman, described only as in her 40s, dead from a single gunshot wound.

The girl was treated at the scene by paramedics and was alert and able to speak, said Chief David Leahy of the Westtown-East Goshen Police Department.

Police found a gun not far from the woman’s body.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly reported that the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said the girl was struck by the same bullet that killed the woman.
