An Uber driver groped a woman after driving her and her fiancé home from a bar in Bristol earlier this year, assaulting her when her fiancé’s back was turned, police said Thursday.

Wael Hagag, 40, was charged with indecent assault and harassment in connection with the incident, which took place April 27 on Mill Street.

The woman told police she encountered Hagag after calling for an Uber from Dogwood’s Pub, according to the affidavit of probable cause for his arrest.

She told police she recognized Hagag as an employee of Carnival Pizza, near her home in Bristol.

During the drive home, she said, the couple asked Hagag to pull the car over so that her fiancé could urinate in an alley. She also got out of the car and while her back was turned, Hagag walked up behind her and put his hands underneath her shirt and groped her, the affidavit said.

Her fiancé returned as the assault was taking place, and Hagag got into the car and fled, the affidavit said.

Hagaga was released on $10,000 unsecured bail, court records show. There was no indication he had hired an attorney, and he did not return a request for comment.

He is scheduled to appear before a district judge for a preliminary hearing Oct. 21.
