Police said two people were shot Tuesday at Wilmington Hospital in Delaware and the hospital remains under lockdown.

The shooting was reported Tuesday afternoon at the hospital, which is located at 501 W. 14th St. in Wilmington.

Police said they would provide a report later in the day and asked the public to avoid the hospital.

No arrests were reported.

An NBC10 news crew at the scene after 5:30 p.m. showed a large police presence at the hospital, but there did not appear to be urgent activity to indicate immediate danger.

Arshon Howard, a spokesperson for ChristianaCare, said in an email shortly before 6 p.m. that the hospital campus remained on lockdown and the emergency department was on divert.

“We are working closely with law enforcement and taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and visitors. This is an active police investigation for a possible active shooter,” Howard said.

No other details were available.

U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride (D., Del.) said she was monitoring the situation.

“As we await more information, I’m praying for the patients and providers who were on site,” McBride posted on social media.

U.S. Sen. Chris Coons (D., Del.) also said he was following the developments and asked people to follow updates from local officials.

“I’m praying for everyone’s safety, including patients, health care workers, first responders, and law enforcement officers,” Coons posted on X.
