The Eagles have lost four straight games, the longest losing streak of the Nick Sirianni era, and expect to be without Jalen Hurts for the remainder of the season.

But the big games keep coming, and they’re now preparing to face their longtime NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, on Monday Night Football (8:15 p.m., 6abc).

The Eagles (2-4) are coming off a 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers in which backup quarterback Tanner McKee struggled to get anything going in his first start of the season. Dallas (2-4), meanwhile, is coming off its second straight loss.

Running back Saquon Barkley’s potential return from a two-game absence with a hamstring injury could boost the Birds’ offense. He was listed as a full participant on Saturday and is questionable. Wide receivers DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle) were ruled out, however.

A Cowboys offense led by Dak Prescott and standout receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens will present a challenge for an Eagles defense that is banged up, too.

Let’s take a closer look at how the experts see the NFC East showdown playing out:

Inquirer predictions

The Inquirer’s beat reporters say the Eagles’ and Cowboys’ 2-4 records “add a touch of additional tension to an always heated rivalry.”

Ryan Novozinsky has the Cowboys winning, 24-14, saying it is hard to have confidence in the Birds, especially after a “distraction-filled week.”

“Ten years. That’s how long it’s been since the Eagles’ last five-game losing streak. If they want to avoid that, they’ll need to beat a Cowboys team that’s in the exact same position record-wise (2-4) on Monday Night Football.
This looks like a favorable matchup for the Eagles on paper.
The Cowboys defense is terrible. They have the fewest takeaways in the league with 3 and struggle against the run and pass. Their offense is explosive, but Vic Fangio’s defense has kept the Birds in games over the past few weeks, so that shouldn’t be much of an issue.”

National media predictions

NFL.com: All five experts picked the Cowboys over the Eagles. Expert Bobby Kownack wrote, “For as bad as the past two weeks have been for the Cowboys, they feel like a safer pick to turn things around in a division that is wide open.”

ESPN.com: Pamela Maldonado is the lone analyst out of 11 to back the Eagles.

The Athletic: Senior writer Vic Tafur is picking the Cowboys against the spread. “There seems to be a chance Saquon Barkley is back for this one, which would bring the number down a little bit,” he wrote.

CBS Sports: Dave Richard is the only one on a panel of seven picking the Eagles to take home a win on Monday night.

USA Today: “How the mighty have fallen,” Adam Kaufman and Nick Brinkerhoff wrote. They are split, with Kaufman backing the Cowboys and Brinkerhoff choosing the Birds. “The Eagles are injured. The Cowboys are lifeless. One of them has to win. How’s that for a promo? Dallas is clearly the more talented team on paper, but something stinks about this group, and it’s hard to pinpoint where the smell is coming from,” Brinkerhoff wrote.

Sports Illustrated: Seven of the eight analysts picked the Cowboys. John Pluym was the only analyst to back the Eagles.

Bleacher Report: Brad Gagnon, Kris Knox, and Moe Moton are going with the Eagles when it comes to the 4½-point spread favoring the Cowboys. “The NFC East is a weird place, especially in prime time,” Gagnon wrote. “The Eagles’ season may be imploding, but that’s not enough for me to back the extremely untrustworthy Cowboys as a sizeable road favorite against an experienced and resilient opponent that is very familiar with everything Dallas does. Both teams are messes, so this feels like a field-goal game.”

Pro Football Talk: Mike Florio has the Cowboys winning, writing that, “The Eagles have an excuse or two for being 2-4. The Cowboys don’t. It’s desperation time in Dallas. Absent a turnaround, the changes for 2027 could be dramatic.”

Sporting News: Bill Bender has the Cowboys beating the Eagles, 23-20.

Local media predictions

Philly Voice: Geoff Mosher is the only one at Philly Voice to back the Eagles. “I sense that Week 6’s loss and all the mess around Jalen Hurts this week was truly rock bottom for the organization this season. I’m not expecting some brilliant turnaround, but it shouldn’t go unnoticed that the Cowboys are also playing terribly and don’t have nearly the same injury list as the Eagles do,” he wrote.

Bleeding Green Nation: Two panelists at Bleeding Green Nation picked the Birds to win on Monday, with the four others backing the Cowboys.

Blogging the Boys: Dyllan Rivers is predicting a Cowboys win, writing, “Tanner McKee is a stationary target without a good offensive line. … If the Cowboys defense ever had a moment to show up and get right, this would be a great time.”

The Eagles seem reluctant to address the handling of the Jalen Hurts blood clots saga, but the key questions involved in the story aren’t going anywhere. Throughout the week, in the absence of remarks from general manager Howie Roseman or team medical personnel, head coach Nick Sirianni was peppered by reporters. He’s offered few details in return. After speaking with high-ranking medical officials currently or previously employed by NFL teams, The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane frames four central issues that remain unanswered, while also looking at what this situation means for Hurts’ future in Philadelphia. Listen here.
