A 5-year-old girl and a 67-year-old woman were shot Saturday night during an annual pre-Mother’s Day celebration in the city of Chester, police said.

The gunfire erupted about 5 p.m. in the 200 block of Lloyd Street, police said.

Officers found both victims with wounds resulting from what seemed to be a small-caliber gun, police said. Officer Jeffrey Walls applied a tourniquet to one of the girl’s legs before she and the woman, who was shot in the forearm, were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment.

Both were in good condition, police said.

No arrests had been reported. Detectives from the Chester Police Department and Delaware County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.

Authorities ask that anyone with information contact Detective Michael Canfield at 610-447-2263 or submit tips by using the Chester Police Department smartphone app.
