Comedian Shane Gillis’ performance Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field was record breaking.

Despite concerns about smoky conditions and poor air quality from wildfires raging in Canada, the one-night-only comedy special earned the Mechanicsburg, Pa., native Guinness World Records for largest audience for a comedian (73,946 attendees) and most tickets sold for a comedy show by a solo comedian (77,047 tickets), the Linc posted on Instagram.

Under the Linc’s post, one commenter wrote, “Bro packed that ... like an eagles game.”

The attendance record was previously held by German comedian Mario Barth, who performed for 67,733 people in 2008, according to Guinness’ database.

The show was billed as the largest headliner of Gillis’ career and featured special guests, like fellow comedian Dave Chappelle and hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia, as well as Philadelphia icons rapper Meek Mill and Eagles Jordan Mailata and Jason Kelce.

This was somewhat of a homecoming for Gillis, who graduated from West Chester University and cut his teeth in Philly’s comedy scene. He was announced as a Saturday Night Live cast member in 2019 but was fired days later, before the season premiere, for having made homophobic and racist jokes on his podcast.

In the years since, Gillis’ brash style and edgy, often controversial jokes, have launched him into stardom. He’s landed a hit Netflix series and a successful stand-up special on the streaming service. He recently hosted Netflix’s Roast of Kevin Hart and emceed the 2025 ESPY Awards, where his opening monologue drew mixed reactions.

Spanning two years and some 100 shows, Gillis has sold more than 1 million tickets, according to media reports.
