City worker's drunken joyride ends in crash

A Department of Recreation employee's drunken joyride came to an abrupt end Thursday night when he plowed into two cars and a house in South Philadelphia, police said.

The unidentified driver lost control of the city-owned truck he was driving around 6:25 p.m. and crashed on 12th Street near Bigler.

The man was hospitalized with minor injuries and will face DUI charges, police said. Officials in the Accident Investigation Division would not disclose the man's age Thursday night.

Medics took the man to Methodist Hospital. Police and fire officials were unsure of the extent of the man's injuries.

No one in either car — or the house that the truck rammed into — was injured.
