A Camden man was charged with first-degree murder in connection with an August drive-by shooting that killed a 25-year-old man, Camden County authorities said Tuesday.
Nicholas Stiegler, 21, allegedly shot George Rivera around 5:50 p.m. on Aug. 21 on the unit block of West Hodges Avenue in Lawnside from inside a red Jeep Compass that was traveling on West Hodges, authorities said.
Rivera, who lived in Lawnside, was taken by private vehicle to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:27 p.m. that day, authorities said.
Surveillance video obtained by detectives showed the Jeep traveling from Camden to the area of the shooting and then back to Camden, authorities said.
Stiegler also was charged Oct. 15 with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay said.
The next day, he was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task — Camden Division, MacAulay said.
Stiegler was being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility awaiting a detention hearing scheduled for Friday, MacAulay said.
