Former teen pop star Aaron Carter, younger brother to Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, has filed for bankruptcy. A rep told E! that the singer is filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy to "alleviate past issues in an effort to move forward with his life and career."

The 25-year-old is about 2 million dollars in debt and his personal assets only total to about $8,232. "The bulk of the debt is from over 10 years ago when he was a minor and not in control of his finances," Carter's publicist Steve Honig stated. "This has happened to a lot of people who had fame at a very early age."

Carter is also trying to reignite his music career. He performed at West Chester, PA venue The Note back in March and he has a string of small shows lined up for the remainder of 2013.
