If you've ever wondered how the name Paterno would do on statewide Pennsylvania ballot, it now appears you'll get a chance to see.
Jay Paterno, who served under his father as PSU quaterbacks coach (and played for Penn State 1986-90), isn't new to politics. He was a surrogate speaker for the Obama campaign in 2008 and again in 2012, and campaigned with Vice President Biden.
He now runs a non-profit group working to fight malaria in Africa but still lives in State College with his wife and five children.
His website says he has a "passion" for issues and can bring "visionary leadership" to Harrisburg.
This week is the first week candidates can circulate nominating petitions. Getting on the ballot for lieutenant governor requires at least 1,000 registered-voter signatures, including at least 100 from five different counties.
