Team Rules Briere Out Tonight

NEW YORK -- Danny Briere won't play in tonight's game at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.

Briere suffered a bruised hand in the third period of Wednesday's 4-1 win over Dallas.

The Flyers list Briere as day to day.

"He is not able to play tonight," general manager Paul Holmgren said in an email reply.

It's likely that Matt Read would center the No. 2 line with James van Riemsdyk and Wayne Simmonds.

"Our team has faced a lot of adversity with all the injuries," Read said. "It is just another guy out of the lineup. It's a huge loss for our team and it's a matter of our guys stepping up and for myself being put in the position to take over his role, I guess for the night. It's a lot of weight on my shoulders filling his role, I guess."

Here were other injury updates from Holmgren.

Brayden Schenn (concussion). "Brayden skated and did his off-ice conditioning again today and has made good strides. Day to day."
Sean Couturier (head injury) "Sean skated today and did his off-ice conditioning. Day to day."
