Amish buggies: Picturesque and perilous

The headline was both jarring and familiar: “Mass casualty horse and buggy accident injures 7 in Colerain Township.” Hardly a day goes by without a news report of a horse-car crash near an Amish settlement somewhere in the eastern United States. There are almost always injuries. The horses almost always are killed or have to be put down at the scene because of their horrific injuries.
