A 30-year-old man has been arrested in the April shooting death of a 26-year-old father in Kensington, police said Thursday.

Giovany Perales, of the 5900 block of Malta Street in the Harrowgate section of Kensington, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder and gun offenses in the fatal shooting of Raymond Pantoja.

About 2:20 a.m. April 10, Pantoja was found by police with a gunshot wound to his chest outside a nightclub on the 200 block of East Allegheny Avenue. Pantoja, of the 200 block of Wellens Street in Olney, was taken by police to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. that day.

Police in April said the initial investigation revealed there may have been some type of altercation between the victim and other people inside and outside the club shortly before the shooting.

Pantoja was shot in front of a crowd of people. A man pressed a gun into Pantoja's chest and fired, but his identity was hidden by a hoodie.

Pantoja's mother, Lisa Espinosa, had worked diligently to help detectives find her son's killer, poring over social-media sites and spreading word about her son's murder.

As a result of an investigation, homicide detectives were led to Perales as the shooter, and on Wednesday, detectives found him at his home, where he was taken into custody without incident, police said. Perales faces a Nov. 9 preliminary hearing.
