Avalon ready to move in West Chester

In less than two weeks, John Brandt-Lee is closing his Avalon BYOB at 312 S. High St. in the borough, as he takes over what he is currently operating as Nonna's, a few blocks away at 116 E. Gay St.

To co-opt a hoary West Chester one-liner, you might say that restaurateur John Brandt-Lee is going out High and coming in Gay.

Brandt-Lee is closing his Avalon BYOB at 312 S. High St. in the borough, as he takes over what he is currently operating as Nonna's, a few blocks away at 116 E. Gay St.

Avalon's new location will have a full bar, twice as many seats, sidewalk dining and live music on weekends. Plans call for a mozzarella/antipasti bar and wood-burning pizza to be added soon.

Here is the timeline:

Easter Sunday, April 20, will be what they're billing as "the last supper" (yes, lowercase) at Avalon's South High Street location, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Nonna's on Gay Street will serve Easter dinner from the regular menu starting at 3 p.m.

On April 23, Nonna's bar will be open with all-you-can-eat mussels for $10 per person and $3 drafts. This will be Nonna's finale.

On April 24,  the Avalon sign will hang on 116 E. Gay St. and Brandt-Lee will donate 33 percent of all food sales to the Dining Out for Life fundraiser for HIV research.

Brandt-Lee has not said what will become of the High Street location.
