Eagles-Phillies split the audience

Baseball is a bigger draw here, but not nationally.

Phillies ready to sweep the Reds ... Eagles in San Francisco to play the Niners.

At the same time.

What was a Philly sports fan to do? Besides dial-flipping.

Nielsen has spoken with ratings.

Three out of four TV sets in use in the Philly area Sunday night were tuned to the Phillies or the Eagles, whose games took over prime time.

In terms of local households tuning into the games after 8 p.m., the Phillies on TBS outpolled the Eagles on NBC. The Phillies game drew about 830,000 households (and 39 percent of the viewing audience), compared with about 730,000 households (and 35 percent of the audience) for the Eagles.

In terms of adults 18 to 49, the Phillies drew a few thousand more viewers, while the Eagles edged ahead of the Phillies among men 18 to 49 and men 25 to 54.

Nationally, it was no contest as NBC's football coverage notched an 11.7 rating in the overnights, compared with a 3.9 for TBS's Phillies-Reds game. I don't have access to the national demos.
