East Girard Gastropub to close to make way for french fry shop

Shoo Fry plans 2 locations in the city.

April 10 will be last call after nearly five years for East Girard Gastropub at Girard Avenue and Shackamaxon Street.

Owners Rob Holloway and Ryan Kearney are amicably splitting their business partnership.

The space will become the second location for Shoo Fry, whose specialty is build-your-own french fries, sliders, and shakes. It will not have a liquor license.

Shoo Fry's first location will be 132 S. 17th St., replacing the recently shutted Underdogs, the subterranean hot dog shop near Rittenhouse Square.

Owner Matt Baiada, who also owns a Cold Stone Creamery location in Delaware County with his wife, Rachel, says the timeline for 17th Street looks like late May, while the larger location in Fishtown seems to be late summer.

At Shoo Fry, customers can choose from classic, curly, and steak fries, which get proteins (cheesesteak, pulled pork, even peanut butter) and other toppings. Shoo Fry's fries/sliders/shakes menu is riff on the burger-fries-shakes meal.

Both locations will keep late hours on weekends.
