Lower Merion High gym named after Kobe Bryant

A report says the 1996 graduate donated $411,000.

Props to the Main Line Times for its report that the Lower Merion School Board agreed to name the gym at the new Lower Merion High School in Ardmore after 1996 graduate Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The story says Bryant donated $411,000 for "a series of inspirational, interactive and educational displays at the new school."

It also says the gym will be dedicated later this year.

The Lakers come to Philadelphia to play the Sixers on Dec. 17.

In an Inquirer story at the school building's opening in August, staff writer Bonnie Cook described the gym's "hand-painted maple floor, full commercial kitchen, and food court/cafeteria, plus a pool with risers and locker rooms ... grouped on a separate ground-floor level."
