Smoke's Poutinerie, the Quebec-based shop specializing in 30 varieties of gravy-and-cheese-topped fries, has secured a Philadelphia location.

Franchisee Raj Rana of Voorhees-based Imperial Restaurant Group says it will open in October - permitting permitted, that is - at 411-413 South St., replacing a Subway at Leithgow Street. It's a few doors from the new MilkBoy location.

Rana says he and his group want to open about five Smoke's shops in the region, including the Temple University area, University City, and perhaps Manayunk. They are location-scouting in college areas or those with vibrant nightlife.

Rana and his partners also have the Central and South Jersey rights to the Greene Turtle sports bars. Their first location is expected to open this winter in the North Brunswick Transit Village development. They also have two South Jersey locations in mind for a fourth-quarter 2017 opening.

A different group is developing a Greene Turtle location in North Wales, on the former Pizzeria Uno site at 1100 Bethlehem Pike.

Meanwhile, homegrown frites supplier Shoo Fry says it is about to wrap construction on its location at 132 S. 17th St. in Rittenhouse, which suggests a late August/early September opening. Owner Matt Baiada says a Shoo Fry location in Fishtown, at 200 E. Girard Ave., is quite a ways away, as construction permits have not been filed.
