Wit WHAT? Pat's will top your cheesesteak with truffles for 20 bucks

Pat's King of Steaks owner Frank Olivieri bought a "leftover" truffle at the auction for $2,500, and now funghi will find their way onto Pat's steak sandwiches on Thursday, Nov. 17, starting at 12:30 p.m., at Ninth and Passyunk.

Highly prized white Alba truffles are popping up on menus around town, following an auction at the Union League on Sunday supporting the National Italian American Foundation.

Pat's King of Steaks owner Frank Olivieri bought a "leftover" truffle at the auction for $2,500, and now funghi will find their way onto Pat's steak sandwiches on Thursday, Nov. 17, starting at 12:30 p.m., at Ninth and Passyunk.

The truffle-topped sandwich will be priced at $20, about twice the cost of the regulation version.

Among the expected patrons will be Italian Consul General Andrea Canepari.
