Day & Zimmermann buys Kansas ammo maker

Day & Zimmermann Inc., of Philadelphia, said today it has acquired American Ordnance L.L.C., an ammunitions supplier for the U.S. military.

Day & Zimmermann Inc., of Philadelphia, said today it has acquired American Ordnance L.L.C., an ammunitions supplier for the U.S. military.

The acquired company employs 1,300 and has annual revenues of $180 million, Day & Zimmerman said.

The firm is based in Pittsburg, in southeastern Kansas, and manufactures and sells training and tactical ammunition for medium and large-caliber weapons, such as tanks and artillery. It also provides munitions maintenance and upgrading services to the military and defense contractors, and disarms old ammunition and explosive devices.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

"Tapping their industry prominence augments our already extensive portfolio of munitions operations," Michael Yoh, president of the Day & Zimmermann munitions operations said in a statement.

Day & Zimmermann, which reports annual revenues of $1.9 billion, said it employs 23,000 people at 150 locations worldwide.

The privately held company, headed by chief executive Harold L. Yoh III, provides architectural, engineering, construction management, maintenance, security, product validation and other services to industrial, utility, munitions, energy, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and technology companies as well as to government installations and the military.
