A bicyclist died after an overnight hit-and-run crash in Northeast Philadelphia.

The victim, identified as 42-year-old Matthew Matteson, was riding his bike in the northbound bicycle lane on the 5700 block of Frankford Avenue, on the border of the city's Mayfair and Wissinoming sections, when he was struck at about 12:45 a.m. Friday, Philadelphia police said.

The driver, who was also heading north, fled the scene after the crash.

Police said later Friday that a person of interest was being questioned.

No charges were immediately announced. Officials didn't identify the person of interest.

Police said the bicycle had its flashing lights on when it was struck.

The impact of the car split the bike into multiple pieces and launched the cyclist more than 100 feet from the initial crash site, police said.

Matteson was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:50 a.m.
