Gov. Wolf requests federal investigation of crimes against Jewish institutions

Gov. Wolf on Thursday formally requested a federal hate-crimes investigation into acts against Jewish institutions in Pennsylvania, including the recent vandalism at a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia.

In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Wolf cited last week's toppling of headstones at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wissinoming as well as bomb threats made this week against a Jewish day school in Montgomery County and Jewish Community Centers in York and Harrisburg.

The targeting of the institutions in Pennsylvania and around the country, Wolf wrote, "give credence in my mind that these are not a series of unconnected and random instances. Clearly, we cannot stand by as these acts continue and Jewish Americans are living in fear of being terrorized — or worse."
