BOALSBURG - Two massive gun barrels from the World War II-era battleship, the USS Pennsylvania, have arrived at their new home, in the state honored by the ship.

The 14-inch barrels arrived today at the Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg. The 66-ton tubes were transported from a U.S. naval testing facility in Dahlgren, Va., where they had been stored since shortly after the ship was fitted with new guns in 1945.

The gun barrels were on the ship on Dec. 7, 1941, when the Pennsylvania survived the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Museum officials say the barrels have reached their final home at the military museum just outside State College. They plan to do some repairs before lifting the tubes on to a permanent cradle outside the facility this summer.
