Philadelphia's 311 "hotline" system for nonemergency calls will scale back its hours beginning tonight at midnight due to the city's ongoing budget crisis.
The service, which debuted Dec. 31 to much fanfare, provided information for callers 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
Operators will now take calls 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. It will be closed Sundays.
311 remains the only number necessary to find city information or to access city services.
The cutbacks are expected to save $230,000 annually.
