A 24-year-old man who was walking along the train tracks of SEPTA's Fox Chase Regional Rail line between the Lawndale and Olney stations was fatally struck Saturday night, a SEPTA spokesman said Sunday morning.

The victim, whose identity and hometown were not released, was walking with another man, 30, at the time, spokesman John Golden said.

The accident happened just after 7 p.m. Saturday, as the southbound train, heading toward Center City, was approaching the Olney station, near Mascher Street and Tabor Road.

SEPTA police questioned the other man, who was not injured, but Golden said he did not have information on why the two were walking on or near the tracks. The other man was not charged with any crimes, and no foul play was suspected, Golden said. The accident remained under investigation.

Service on the Fox Chase line was temporarily suspended Saturday night.
