UPPER DARBY Two Upper Darby High School students have been chosen to attend the Grammy Camp/Jazz Session in Los Angeles the last week in January as part of the music awards show celebration.
Immanuel Wilkins and Yesseh Furaha-Ali, both saxophone players, will join 30 other musically talented students from across the country. The group will perform at several events during the 56th Grammy Awards celebration.
The students will work under the direction of Justin DiCioccio of the Manhattan School of Music, Ron McCurdy of the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, and associate choral director Susanna Wegner of Kansas City, Mo.
Wilkins has played at the Cape May Jazz Festival and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. He also plays other instruments, including piano, upright bass, and flute, according to his website.
Furaha-Ali, who also plays piano and clarinet, has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. He received a $20,000 scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
