A 63-year-old Jersey Shore woman was found guilty Tuesday of murdering her husband and dismembering his corpse.
Loretta Doyle Burroughs, of Ventnor City, Atlantic County, at the conclusion of a four-day trial, was found guilty of stabbing to death her husband, Daniel Burroughs, in their Mays Landing home in 2007.
Daniel was reported missing to Hamilton Township Police in September 2007. Shortly after the report was filed, Loretta moved to Ventnor City.
Jurors deliberated for two hours before agreeing that after murdering her husband, Loretta cut her husband's corpse into chunks, dumped them into two containers, and moved the remains with her to Ventnor City to avoid suspicion.
For six years, Loretta told friends and family members her husband left her. In 2013, however, as investigators were serving a warrant for a separate embezzlement case, Daniel's decomposing remains were discovered in her Ventnor home, in her closet.
Loretta will be sentenced on April 22 at 9 a.m.
Her conviction carries a potential life sentence in New Jersey state prison with a minimum of 30 years without parole.
