Johnny Manziel wet behind ears when dealing with fan

The 22-year-old Browns quarterback gets more unneeded publicity after throwing water bottle at heckler.

ON SATURDAY, Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel got more attention for throwing one water bottle than he did from any of his 35 passes in the NFL last season.

Manziel was in his home state of Texas attending the Byron Nelson Classic when he was involved in an incident in which he allegedly threw a water bottle at a heckling fan.

According to several reports, the former Texas A&M star, a first-round draft choice in 2014, was harassed by an 18-year-old male near the hotel pool of the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, where the tournament was held. One of Manziel's friends told ESPN that the man, dressed in an Aggies polo shirt, had repeatedly asked to have a photo taken with the quarterback. Manziel refused, which annoyed the fan who went so far as to grab the QB's arm.

The friend said that as Manziel started to walk away, the fan yelled, "Good luck never starting in the NFL."

Manziel then reportedly replied, "What?" and threw a water bottle that missed.

Manziel's friend said the bottle was empty. Other reports have it as much as three-quarters full.

The fan then reportedly, yelled, "Good throw, Johnny."

The Browns can't be happy with the publicity generated from the incident. It was, after all, only six months ago that Manziel and a group of his friends were involved in an altercation after a 33-year-old fan, who was allegedly intoxicated, asked the quarterback for a hug in a Cleveland hotel lobby.

Manziel, 22, has to know by now that some are rooting for him to screw up. Many athletes with a lot more talent than him have learned to deal with fans.

On Saturday, one of Manziel's friends told ESPN that the quarterback should start thinking about hiring security to accompany him in public.

It would be a lot cheaper if he would just grow up and act like an adult.
