Germantown Academy guard commits to Lafayette

Nick Lindner, star junior basketball guard from Germantown Academy, said he has always been a fan of the Patriot League.

Nick Lindner, star junior basketball guard from Germantown Academy, said he has always been a fan of the Patriot League.

"Now," he said Tuesday via cell phone, "I'm the biggest fan in the country."

Reason: the 5-10, 165-pounder has committed to Lafayette.

"I made a visit up there on Sunday and fell in love with the campus, coaches and players," Lindner said. "When we were coming out of the office, I told my mom, 'This is where I want to go.'

"The feelings really did surprise me. I visited six schools (unofficially) and you really don't know how things are going to turn out. Everybody was great. By the end of the day, I just knew. My parents (Peggy, Pete) felt the same way I did. They loved it, too."

The feisty Lindner, who last season averaged 17.8 points while earning first team All-Inter-Ac honors, was also pursued by Colgate, Bucknell, St. Francis (Pa.), Holy Cross and Penn.

When asked what he pictures being his eventual major, he quipped, "Anything but English." He then added, "Maybe something with math."
