Quentin Grimes will miss Sixers’ game vs. Thunder with an illness

Grimes has been one of the Sixers' top scoring options without Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, and Kelly Oubre Jr. in the lineup.

Sixers guard Quentin Grimes has averaged 22.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in his past nine games.

Quentin Grimes (illness) will miss the 76ers’ Monday game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team said, while Dominick Barlow (ankle sprain) is available to play.

Grimes’ absence leaves the Sixers even more shorthanded against the defending NBA champion. They are already missing All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey (little finger sprain), former MVP Joel Embiid (oblique strain), and starting wings Kelly Oubre Jr. (elbow sprain) and Paul George (suspension).

Grimes has become one of the Sixers’ top scoring options amid those absences. He has averaged 22.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in his past nine games. MarJon Beauchamp will start in place of Grimes.

Barlow, who sustained his injury in the first quarter of Saturday’s win at the Utah Jazz, has averaged 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in 60 games. He has been one of the Sixers’ feel-good stories this season, ascending from a player on a two-way contract to reliable starting forward.

The Sixers (39-32) remain in a crowded Eastern Conference playoff race. They entered Monday in seventh place, with the same record as the sixth-place Atlanta Hawks (who won the regular-season tiebreaker). Both teams were a half-game behind the fifth-place Toronto Raptors, and a half-game ahead of the eighth-place Orlando Magic.
