Art Thief: Draw a Tyrannosaurus Rex

Who's afraid of T-Rex? Drawing T-Rex isn't easy, but I think you are brave enough to give it a try. Remember, the more you draw, and the more you challenge yourself, the better your art will be.

Let's flex our art muscles and get started.

1. T-Rex has a huge head, which is almost as big as its body. Begin with lightly sketching this hatchet shape. Next, draw the two brow ridges that look like bumps atop his head. The body is an oval, and the tail is drawn in a series of arcs. Now you can connect the head to the body with two more arcs. I hope you left room for the legs!

2. Examine and sketch the wavy shape at the top of the mouth. Now you can connect the U-shape (shown in blue) that becomes the lower jaw. Round off all of the corners of the hatchet shape and add an eye. T-Rex’s legs are big and powerful. Start with the  two highlighted arcs when drawing the legs. Then add the feet.

3. Sketch in the dinosaur’s tiny arms and fingers. The mouth is very complex. Take your time with the big, pointed teeth. Sketch in a little skin texture, such as wrinkles or bumps, on your dinosaur.

4. Add color with pencils, markers or watercolors. No one knows what the skin of the Tyrannosaurus looked like. Some scientists believe that it had feathers. Make your dinosaur any color or combination of colors you like.
