Kevair Kennedy, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the year, plans to enter the transfer portal after an impressive freshman season at Merrimack.

The Philadelphia native, who graduated from Father Judge, averaged 18.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.9 steals in 34 starts this season. He averaged 36.8 minutes and led the team in scoring, assists, and steals.

Kennedy, a 6-foot-2 guard, became the first freshman in conference history to be named player of the year. He also was the MAAC’s rookie of the year.

He helped lead Merrimack (23-11) to the MAAC regular-season title and an appearance in the conference tournament final, where it lost, 64-54, to Siena.

Kennedy, who shot 45.1% from the floor, scored at least 20 points in 16 games. He scored a career-high 32 points in a 79-72 overtime win over Siena on Feb. 20, when he went 16-for-16 in free throws.

Beside Merrimack, Kennedy held one other scholarship offer, from Wagner, as a high school recruit. He’ll have three seasons of college eligibility left.
