Gritty does his best Dwight Schrute impression, special guests, and more from the Flyers’ ‘The Office’ theme night
From Gritty dressed as Dwight to appearances from Stanley and Meredith, here’s everything you missed from the Flyers' first-ever The Office Game.

Our favorite receptionist turned saleswoman, Pam Beesly, once said “There’s a lot of beauty in ordinary things.” But Saturday night’s Flyers game at the Xfinity Mobile Arena was anything but ordinary.
Philadelphia briefly turned into Scranton, as Xfinity Mobile Arena went through a full Dunder Mifflin makeover during the Flyers’ 2-1 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Gritty gave us his best Dwight Schrute impression, and fans were surprised with special appearances from cast members of the hit TV show which aired from 2005-13.

The first-ever The Office Game, presented by Peacock in celebration of NBC’s 100th Anniversary, was quite a hit — providing fans with plenty of photo ops, special memorabilia related to the show, and in-game interactions, including the Flyers’ own version of the Dundies.
And if there was a Dundie given out to one of the best in-game promotions this season, 61-year-old Trish Walter is awarding it to The Office Game.
“Oh yeah, 100 percent, it gets a Dundie Award,” Walter said.
Here’s everything you missed:
Special guest appearances
After the first period, a look-a-like camera surprised fans with special appearances from The Office’s Stanley Hudson, played by Leslie David Baker, and Meredith Palmer, played by Kate Flannery.
In the second period, both Baker and Palmer got more involved, helping Gritty pie a Blue Jackets fan.
Dwight, is that you?
Although Rainn Wilson didn’t make an appearance at Saturday’s game, Dwight Schrute’s presence was felt — in the form of Gritty.
But Gritty’s disguise as Schrute wasn’t fooling many. Twenty-two-year-old Amanda Harrington had her own conspiracy when it came to the Flyers mascot.
“I feel like Michael Scott could be in the costume,” Harrington said. “Like who even knows? He is Gritty. Michael just wants people to be afraid of how much they love him, like Gritty.”
Gritty and Scott have a lot in common. They’re both characterized by chaotic energy. They both cause slight disruption in the workplace with their unique personalities. But at the end of the day, they’re both loved by many. Saturday night was the perfect example of that.
“They’re just always trying to make people laugh,” said 42-year-old Deirdre Drawdy.
Special treats and gear
Fans who paid for the special ticket package were given a mug that read “World’s Best Flyers Fan,” paying homage to Scott’s “World’s Best Boss” mug.
Although Jersey native Drawdy wasn’t able to get the mug herself, she brought her own gear — wearing a “Flyers, Beets, Battlestar Galactica” sweater.
“I love The Office and I love the Flyers. So, I thought it was perfect,” Drawdy said. “[When I found out about the event], I was like I absolutely have to go.”
And if fans happened to be hungry after a week of waking up every morning in a bed too small, driving their kids to a school too expensive, and working a job that pays too little, then Stanley’s Pretzel Day Pretzel was exactly what they were looking for.
Baker certainly loved it.
The arena also offered Meredith’s Casual Friday Punch, Michael’s Orange-Vod-Juice-Ka, and a Dundie-rita.
In-game interactives
There were a number of in-game interactives that took place during the game, including an Office-themed introduction which featured The Office’s opening song playing on top of clips of Philadelphia.
There were also plenty of references to the show throughout the game — whether it was Scott’s Tots playing hockey at intermission or the Flyers hosting their own version of the Dundies Awards.
‘It’s just a go-to show’
The Office spans over many generations. Stacy McDonough, 52, grew up watching every season of the show as it aired on television. Now, she enjoys taking the time to watch it with the 22-year-old Harrington.
“It’s just a go-to show that you can put on whenever,” McDonough said. “It’s just a classic. In the office, I think everybody’s got a Jim [Halpert], everybody’s got a Michael. It’s great.”
The show was even a way for Brazilians Tiago Quaini and Georgia Consemca to learn more about American culture after making the move to Philadelphia in 2019.
“We are kind of like in love with The Office,” Quaini said. “We learned a lot about American culture and it was amazing. We watched and re-watched it a few times during COVID. I think we are now on the fifth or sixth rewatch.
“[We learned] a lot about the office culture. Like whenever there’s free food in my office, people freak out. So yeah, it’s a bit different.”
