P.J. Clarke’s is starting a social club for women who want to meet, sip cocktails, discuss various spirits and learn some history.

The first-ever meeting of the Moon Tree Society, named after the Washington Square Park tree whose seeds were aboard the Apollo 14 mission in 1971, is Thursday at P.J. Clarke’s, 601 Walnut St. The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. and will feature cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks, passed appetizers such as deviled eggs and oysters, and a family-style meal.

The meetings will begin with a toast and feature guest speakers, tastings and discussions about drinks throughout history. The inaugural meeting’s theme is gin, and the discussion will touch on art, society and unique gins. The guest speaker is a representative from the Fever-Tree tonic company.

The cost for the event is $60, which includes drinks and food, though not tax and gratuities. For more information or to attend the meeting, contact Eileen Bowden at Moontreesociety@pjclarkes.com.
