Saturday’s South Jersey Roundup: Timber Creek wins Pop McKenna baseball tournament

Timber Creek overcame a seven-run deficit in the sixth inning by scoring nine runs to beat West Deptford, 11-9, in the Pop McKenna Tournament final. The Chargers scored all nine runs with two outs in the inning. Josh Perry had a three-run triple for Timber Creek.

In the first round, Timber Creek beat Egg Harbor Township, 6-3. Winning pitcher Luke Mignone had two RBIs. Will Bartley hit a homer for the Chargers.

West Deptford beat Pennsville, 9-5 in the first round of the Pop McKenna Tournament. The Eagles scored five runs in the fourth inning to overcome a two-run deficit. RJ Mason went 3-for-4 with a double. Jack Murphy had two RBIs and didn’t allow an earned run in four innings of relief to earn the win.

Egg Harbor Township beat Pennsville, 8-2, in its second game. Robbie Petracci and Anthony Feinstein each hit two doubles. Feinstein and Ethan Dodd each had two RBIs.

Schalick beat Cumberland, 12-1, in five innings in the first round of the Garnet Veterans Appreciation Tournament. Harry Padden had two doubles and three RBIs for the Cougars. Winning pitcher Sam Long struck out four in 3 1/3 innings and had two RBIs. Devin Quenzel also had two RBIs for Schalick.

Haddon Heights beat Collingswood, 1-0, with the lone run coming in the first inning. Winning pitcher Ian Brennan allowed three hits and struck out 11 in his complete game. Haddon Heights will play Schalick in the championship game Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Moorestown beat Vineland, 15-5, in the first round of the Al Hedelt Tournament. Brian McMonagle had a home run and a double for the Quakers. Kevin McCarthy and Wyatt Atkinson also hit homers for Moorestown. Winning pitcher Adam Robinson had a double.

Moorestown will play King’s Christian, which beat Cedar Creek, 10-6, in the semifinals on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Kingsway hit five homers to beat Absegami, 17-10, in the first round. Zach Brook and Sean Szestowicki each homered twice. Justin Szestowicki had a double and a triple, and Matt Lipka doubled twice.

Kingsway will play Oakcrest, which beat Winslow Township, 15-1. in the semifinals on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Bridgeton beat Atlantic City, 10-4, in the eighth annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at Mainland. Winning pitcher Nelson Martinez threw six innings with nine strikeouts and hit a homer to lead off the sixth inning. Angel Castro and Justin Garner each had two RBIs for Bridgeton.

St. Joseph beat Audubon, 5-4, in a non-league matchup. Mercado Cohl, Bobby Hyndman and Austin Pustizzi hit doubles for the Wildcats. Patrick Driscoll and Sean Colbert each had an RBI for Audubon.

St. Augustine’s Kevin Foreman hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning in the Hermits’ 8-7 win over Old Bridge. Foreman’s sac fly drove in Kyle Neri, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in his varsity debut. Neri led off the ninth with a double. Cole Vanderslice hit a two-run single with two outs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Alex Hunt struck out six in 4 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win.

Triton handed Haddonfield its first loss of the season, beating the Bulldawgs, 3-2. Mike Shannon went 2-for-4 with a double for the Mustangs. Winning pitcher Colin Taylor had an RBI.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Williamstown beat Kingsway, 11-10, in an Olympic Conference Patriot Division matchup. Madison Coyle had four goals and an assist for Williamstown. Madison Foti had three goals for the Braves. Kingsway’s Haley Phalines led all scorers with seven goals and had two assists.

Cherokee shut out Lenape in the second half of its 16-6 win in Olympic Conference play. Alex Kulinski scored a team-high six goals and won 11 draw controls. Jill Westerby scored five goals for Cherokee.

Camden Catholic remained undefeated by beating Seneca, 9-7. Brynn Eilbacher had three goals and three assists to help the Irish improve to 14-0. Kate Walsh scored three goals, and Erin Wheeler had three points with a goal and two assists. Seneca’s Cassidy Spilis led all scorers with four goals.

Anissa Serafine and Adrianna Dodge each had hat tricks as Our Lady of Mercy beat Haddon Heights, 7-3. The Villagers scored six second-half goals, including the first five of the half. Erin Miller had two assists for the Villagers.

Softball

Cherry Hill West’s Isabella Sylvester had a double, a home run and three RBIs in the Lions’ 15-5 win over Haddon Township. Meghan Davis and Foster Schaffer also hit homers for Cherry Hill West. Davis and Amelia Sims each had three RBIs.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Haddonfield beat Robbinsville, 14-10, behind a four-goal game from Aiden Blake. Drew Ragone and Max Norton each had hat tricks, and Reece Purnell scored twice.

Lenape beat Cherokee, 7-6, in overtime in an Olympic Conference matchup. Bryce Reece scored the game-winning goal with about 1:50 left in overtime. Lenape’s Matt Soutar tied the game with 20 seconds left in regulation. Mason Bregman led Lenape with three goals, and Sean Kennedy scored twice.
