Tuesday’s South Jersey Roundup: Woodstown wins boys and girls’ Salem County track and field titles

Woodstown won both the Salem County boys’ and girls’ track and field team titles on Tuesday at Pennsville, marking the first time in school history both teams won county championships in the same year.

The boys’ team scored 117 points to beat second-place Schalick’s 86. The girls’ 115 points beat Schalick’s 97. The girls’ team won its first Salem County Championship since 2006. The boys won their first title since 1999.

Woodstown’s Leah Gibson won the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 12.86 seconds. India Norman won the 200 for the Wolverines with a time of 25.99 seconds. Madeline Hunt won both the high jump and the pole vault.

The Wolverines took all three top spots in the discus. Annika Hantho, Carmen Santiago and Alexis Marini had the top-three throws. Kara Knorr won the javelin throw.

Xavier Seals won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 for the Wolverines’ boys team. George Guerrero, Jamir Shockley, Ryan Walton and Wayne Robinson won the 4-x-400 in 3:36.19.

Kyree Hill and Marc Jones took the top two spots in the high jump. Hunter Batten’s 109-foot, five-inch discus throw won the event.

Baseball

Garrett Smith hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning for the winning runs in Egg Harbor Township’s 6-4 win over Vineland in a Cape-Atlantic League baseball matchup on Tuesday. Robbie Petracci went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for the Eagles. Vineland’s Ervin Bogan had his 100th career his and an RBI.

Millville scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning and one in the top of the sixth to beat Atlantic County Tech, 8-6. Connor Nurnburg earned the win for the Thunderbolts. Tony Santa Maria doubled for Atlantic County Tech.

Oakcrest beat Middle Township, 9-1. Winning pitcher Andrew Powell struck out six over five innings and had two RBIs. David Connelly also had two RBIs.

Lenape beat Cherokee, 3-1, in an Olympic Conference matchup. Cade Hunter hit a home run for Lenape.

Pennsauken tallied 14 hits as it beat Northern Burlington, 6-1, in the Burlington County League. Roberto Bonifacio went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Robert Barrientos and Stephen Przychowicsz each doubled. Winning pitcher Ramon Andujar went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and allowed four hits over seven innings.

Palmyra beat Burlington City, 5-4, in 11 innings. David Gross had two hits for Palmyra and struck out seven in six innings on the mound. Zach Senteneri had an RBI for Palmyra. Josh Baar had two RBIs for Burlington City.

Doane Academy beat Barrack Hebrew, 10-9, in a Penn-Jersey League matchup. Zachariah Bhuiyan went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Manav Raval went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Ryan Halasa also had a multi-hit game with two RBIs.

Softball

Cherokee beat Lenape, 3-2, in the Olympic Conference. Jordyn Deveney had a double and a homer. Samantha Lish had a homer for Lenape.

Winning pitcher Julia Cooker hit a double and had three RBIs to help Shawnee beat Eastern, 9-2. Madison McGehrin went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Renegades.

Morgan Fisher went 4-for-4 to help Paul VI beat Bishop Eustace, 11-1. Fisher hit two doubles, scored two runs and had two RBIs. Alexa Lee and Lilly St. Jean also doubled for Paul VI.

St. Joseph scored three runs in the top of the third inning to beat Burlington Township, 4-3. Makayla Veneziale earned the win in the circle.

Cherry Hill West beat Williamstown, 5-4, behind three-hit games from winning pitcher Jessica Bianco and Amelia Sims. Foster Schaffer had a key hit with a two-run homer in the second inning.

Audubon hit five doubles in its 8-2 win over West Deptford. Morgan Hearn had a double and four RBIs. Emily McCutcheon had a double and two RBIs. Winning pitcher McKenzie Yurcaba had a double and an RBI in the Green Wave’s Colonial Conference win.

Sterling beat Collingswood, 6-1. Megan Barbara had a double and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Mallory Skelly also had an RBI.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Delran’s Sean McHugh led all scorers with five goals in the Bears’ 12-11 win over Rancocas Valley in the Burlington County League. Nick Enoch and Ken Howley each had hat tricks for Delran. Dan Myers led Rancocas Valley with four goals.

Gaurav Dravida had five goals and three assists in Cherokee’s 13-1 win over Washington Township in the Olympic Conference’s American Division. Cam Hoelzel and AJ Pasquarello each scored twice.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Haddon Township beat Collingswood, 14-3, in a Colonial Conference matchup. Peyton Moroney led the Hawks with four goals. Lauren Mulligan scored a hat trick.

West Deptford lost, 23-13, to Westfield. Kara Yarusso and Anna Wright each had hat tricks for the Eagles. Antonia Gismondi had two goals and three assists. Westfield’s Paige Radice led all scorers with seven goals. Olivia Shields had two goals and five assists.

Ruby Anyanwu scored a game-high five goals as Pennsauken beat Winslow Township, 17-7. Vivian Uricoechea scored three goals for Pennsauken. Laura Stump led Winslow Township with three goals.

Girls’ Golf

Moorestown beat Seneca, 181-203, in an Olympic Conference matchup. The teams entered the match undefeated in league play. Moorestown’s Catherine Dare had the lowest score, shooting 3-over on the par-36 course.
