N.J. environmental chief joins Obama team
New Jersey Environmental Protection Commissioner Lisa Jackson has been named to President-elect Barack Obama's transition team on energy and natural resources.
The appointment was announced yesterday.
Jackson joins Robert Sussman, a former deputy Environmental Protection Agency administrator, and 11 others. They will conduct a departmental review to provide Obama and key advisers with information they need to make policy, budgetary and personnel decisions prior to the inauguration.
Jackson calls the appointment an "extraordinary honor." She says she could not turn down the chance to serve the incoming president even though she is simultaneously preparing to become chief of staff to New Jersey Gov. Corzine on Dec. 1.
Jackson has a master's degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University, and has been New Jersey's top environmental official since 2006.
