Infant found abandoned in West Philly

Police said the baby reportedly was found abandoned in a West Philadelphia laundromat and the mother was located at a hospital after taking drugs.

Police said a baby was reportedly found abandoned at a West Philadelphia laundromat Tuesday afternoon and the mother was hospitalized after being discovered under the influence of drugs and was under investigation.

Shortly before 4 p.m., police repsonded to the 5000 block of Ogden Street for a reported abandoned baby and were told by witnesses that the child was found inside the JSSK Laundromat at 1300 N. 52nd St.

The baby appeared to be healthy and was transported by medics to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for an evaluation. Police said the mother was found intoxicated on the street and was taken to Lankenau Medical Center.

The police Special Victims Unit was investigating the case and the city’s Department of Human Services was notified.
