Hit-and-run leaves one man dead in Philadelphia’s Juniata neighborhood, police say
An SUV driver was traveling at a high speed when the vehicle struck the man, police said.

A 22-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run driver in the Juniata section of Philadelphia Saturday night, police said.
Around 11:30 p.m., a silver SUV struck a man who was trying to cross the street in the middle of the block along the 4000 block of Whitaker Avenue. Traveling northbound at high speed, the SUV struck the man who was crossing westbound, police said. The SUV fled the scene, continuing northbound on Whitaker Avenue.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by responding Fire Department medics about ten minutes after being struck.
Police have not released the identity of the man and the crash remains under investigation. Police are seeking the public’s help with any information on the vehicle and its driver.
This is not the first fatal hit-and-run on that block. In 2022, a female pedestrian was found under a parked vehicle after a witness heard a noise and saw a vehicle leaving the area. The woman died later that day. The driver was arrested nearly a year later and pleaded guilty in 2024 to homicide by vehicle and other related offenses, court records show.
