Woman, 82, killed by hit-run driver in Northeast Philly

An 82-year-old woman was fatally struck Thursday evening by a vehicle that then was driven from the scene in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

Just after 6 p.m., the woman was hit by the vehicle in the area of Hendrix Street and Bustleton Avenue in Somerton. Medics pronounced her dead at 6:20. Her name was not released.

Police said the striking vehicle may have been a black Jeep. Bustleton was shut down in both directions for the investigation.
