Football: Garnet Valley lineman commits to Villanova

Garnet Valley's Matt Donoghue, a 6-foot-4, 278-pound offensive lineman, has committed to play football at Villanova.

The senior, who played guard for the Jaguars, chose the Jaguars over runner-up Delaware. He also had scholarship offers from Coastal Carolina, Lafayette, Marist, William and Mary, and Youngstown State.

"Villanova just felt right," Donoghue said. "It's a great school academically, and the football program is awesome. I loved the coaches, it was close to home, and I felt like I could fit in with the other players."

As an offensive guard, Donoghue, a first-team all-Central League selection, helped the Jaguars average 37 points per game, post an 8-3 record, and make a return trip to the PIAA District 1 Class AAAA playoffs.
