An 8-year-old girl is hospitalized in stable condition this morning after her 7-year-old brother got a gun from their grandfather's gun safe and shot her in the arm in West Oak Lane, police said.

The incident happened at 10:18 a.m. inside an upstairs bedroom of a home on Georgian Road near Ogontz Avenue, police spokeswoman Officer Jillian Russell said.

The girl remains at Albert Einstein Medical Center with injuries to her right bicep, Russell said. It's unclear now whether the gun safe was unlocked, the kids were supervised or anyone will be charged. The girl was taken to the hospital by private auto.
