Police: Olney teen charged in slaying

An Olney teen has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting that happened on the block he lives on, police said.

Hector Echevarria, 18, was arrested late last night at his home on Mascher Street near Tabor Road, police spokeswoman Officer Leeloni Palmera said.

He's charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses in the death of William Hopkins, 19, whom officers from the 35th District found shot once in the chest Tuesday night on that same block of Mascher Street, Palmera said.

Hopkins was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:53 p.m.
