Police are seeking suspects in the broad-daylight gun death of a Southwest Philadelphia man.

Police Gregory Burnside III, 18, of Grays Avenue near 61st Street, collapsed just a block from his home on Glenmore Avenue near 61st just after 2 p.m. today, according to police and the Gun Violence Survivors Foundation. He had been shot multiple times and died a half hour later at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, police spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little said.

Burnside, a father of two baby girls, was killed just a day before his 19th birthday and three weeks before he would have graduated from Performance Learning Center High School in Southwest Philadelphia, with plans to enlist in the military, according to the Gun Violence Survivors Foundation.

"He was well-known throughout the community for being a free-thinking big dreamer with the determination to back it up. His senior project was on developing a utopian society; however, he knew the odds of it occurring were slim. Why you might ask? 'There just aren't enough good people in the world.' Now, there is one less," school supporters wrote in an online appeal for money to defray the family's funeral costs.

Police reported no suspects or motive in Burnside's murder. Tipsters, call homicide detectives at (215) 686-3334 or -3335.
