Villanova's Neal Brennan, cocreator of 'Chappelle's Show,' books Netflix special
Villanova born and raised comedian Neal Brennan has booked a comedy special with Netflix, filming an adaptation of his off-Broadway show. Penn grad John Legend will serve as producer.
Brennan, a stand up and performer, is largely known for his work as a writer, director, and producer. He cocreated Chapelle's Show with Dave Chappelle and has helmed episodes of Inside Amy Schumer, The Mindy Project and New Girl.
Brennan has just booked a Netflix special, where he'll film his skewed comedy special, 3 Mics.
Netflix describes it thusly:
Director, writer and comedian Neal Brennan is reimagining the hour-long comedy special with his acclaimed show 3 Mics -- his first for Netflix. In a break from classic stand-up comedy, 3 Mics sees Brennan alternating between three separate microphones: one for traditional stand-up; one for one-liners; and one for short confessional monologues, covering everything from managing his depression to his difficult relationship with his father. The show is fresh off a successful off-Broadway run in NYC, with superstar musician John Legend serving as Producer.
The special premieres Jan. 17 on Netflix.
Brennan's special is one of many moves Netflix has made to become a major platform for stand up comedy. Brennan's former coworker, Dave Chappelle, has three comedy special on the streaming service, and Brennan's special was announced along with Jen Kirkman (Jan. 3), Cristela Alonzo (Jan. 24) and Michael Bolton's Big Sexy Valentine's Day Special (Feb. 7).
