Eagles sign LB Najee Goode, release OL Julian Vandervelde

With the status of inside linebackers Kiko Alonso and Mychal Kendricks uncertain, the Eagles signed Najee Goode on Tuesday morning. They released offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde.

Goode, 26, was with the team during the past two seasons. Chip Kelly said Goode was the last player the Eagles released at roster cutdown on Sept. 5. He knows the defense and can help in passing situations and on special teams. Alonso and Kendricks are the team's two linebackers in the nickel.

He will be behind DeMeco Ryans and Jordan Hicks on the depth chart.

As for Alonso, there is no decision yet on whether he will need knee surgery. Alonso is meeting with Dr. James Andrews for further evaluation, according to a league source.

Vandervelde signed with the team last week after David Molk's injury, but he was inactive in the Week 2 game. Josh Andrews was the backup center.
